Welcome to M-squared!
By: Maegan Dupre

At Lisbon High School, something different is happening. Lack of interest has kept the journalism class from being offered. This year, however, two students are attempting to change that. Maegan Dupre and Megan Samson, a junior and a senior at Lisbon are taking the class as an independent study and pioneering their way through it.

It isn’t their articles that make them unique to the halls of Lisbon High, but the method of which they are presenting their articles. Instead of the articles getting written, graded, and left alone they are getting a new life on the internet. Their efforts are being supported by their teacher, Mrs. White, and the staff at their school, including their principal, Mr. Healey.

Maegan and Megan are the co-founders of a site where they are posting all their written work to the public with the help of Weebly, a free online way to host a website. The site, aptly named M-squared, is not only a way to get more people aware of Maegan and Megan’s work but is environmentally friendly and a way for the two students to get a more hands on experience with the technology of the twenty-first century. "It’s a way to get our articles out there in the community," says Samson. "and let the community know what’s going on at the school."

The two students update their articles as often as they get completed, and in this manner the school and community can get recent news from the students, who so rarely get a voice in a form of journalism. "It gives a student a voice," Dupre comments, "we can take our efforts from a classroom and apply it elsewhere. This gives our work meaning."

Their website is wide open, and their topics know no limit. Dupre and Samson are open to ideas as to what to write about next and how to improve their site. They are currently working hard to keep the spirit of journalism alive at Lisbon High School and welcome you to go see the rest of their work.
